Geek purchases

Yesterday I visited the local TandyRadio Shack (they were called Tandy in the Netherlands for the few years they were around there; I loved the place, hated to see them disappear and still mix up the two names from time to time).

Got some audio adapter to make hooking up the PC to the TV a little easier, an indoor/outdoor thermometer (because the one I have sitting on my desk is slowly but surely dying), and a wireless A/V signal sender/receiver. I used to have something like that when I still lived in the Netherlands, but gave it away when I moved, as the things were 220 volt only and trying to work around that seemed a tad ridiculous.

The A/V sender/receiver pair came with a feature I didn’t even anticipate: It is capable of transmitting (one or two) remote control signals to the other side as well. This means we could hook up the sender to the PC and the receiver to the TV and the two don’t necessarily have to be in the same room! I doubt we’ll change the existing setup, since we finally put the network cable in place for it and it seems silly to let that effort go to waste, but we might use it to relay the signal around to the other TV and be able to control it in that room. 🙂

  1. I bought such a monster from Radio Shack ages ago; it turned up recently, whereupon I promptly threw it away.

  2. Can I assume that you simply had no need for it anymore?
